The tenant leaving should understand the next steps
By Nick Devonport, Managing Director · England · Reviewed 26 October 2026
The scenario below is illustrative. It explains our approach; it is not a customer testimonial or a report of a completed case.
Moving out can be as demanding as moving in. A resident may be coordinating another home, work and a household budget. I want our team to explain the process clearly enough that the customer can plan with informed expectations.
A moment in the moving journey
Picture a tenant sending an informal message about wanting to leave and assuming every date is now settled. The team needs to check the applicable arrangement and clarify what has been given, what is required and whether anything remains to be agreed. An assumption can create stress for both parties.
How our property portal helps
Our property portal can help organise the relevant tenancy information and private communications. It provides a place to keep practical questions together. Formal notice requirements still need to be checked separately; a portal task is not automatically a valid notice.

The people behind the process
The resident, management team and landlord need a consistent account of the position. After that, practical handover questions such as access, keys and the property's condition can be discussed in the appropriate order. We should avoid making promises before the underlying dates are confirmed.
Your next step
Before committing to a moving date, ask us to explain the next steps using your actual tenancy information. Clear planning helps the end of one home support the beginning of another.
