The rent review should come with an explanation
By Nick Devonport, Managing Director · England · Reviewed 26 October 2026
The scenario below is illustrative. It explains our approach; it is not a customer testimonial or a report of a completed case.
A rent review is a significant household conversation. It affects a resident's budget and an owner's planning. I want our team to approach it with accurate information, the correct process and enough clarity for both sides to understand the next step.
A moment in the moving journey
Picture a landlord asking for an immediate increase after seeing a nearby advert. That advert may be useful context, but it is not a complete assessment or a substitute for the formal requirements. We need to review the particular tenancy and the evidence before advising on the process.
How our property portal helps
Our property portal can help organise property information and relevant documents. A recorded communication can support continuity when the customer asks a follow-up question. It should not be confused with a formal notice unless the required legal process has actually been followed.

The people behind the process
I want management and lettings colleagues to work together on the explanation. The customer should know what is proposed, what information supports the discussion and where to obtain advice about their rights. We should not promise a particular outcome to either party.
Your next step
If you receive or are considering a rent review, bring the actual documents to the conversation. We can help establish the practical next step and identify questions that need specialist advice.
